Gastro Week Night 1 - STOMA NIGHT
Having a stoma or an ileal pouch is a life-changing chronic condition that requires significant rehabilitation and adaptation to ensure the ostomates’ and pouch patients’ quality of life is restored.
The presentation explores the unmet needs of these patients in the community, focusing on the insufficient support they receive post-discharge from the hospital. Many patients report feeling abandoned during the critical first 3-6 months, a period marked by the highest readmission rates. Studies indicate that over 40% of patients are readmitted 3-4 months post-operatively. These findings highlight the urgent need for enhanced community support systems to improve patient outcomes and reduce readmission rates.
To mitigate this, our nursing service offered support 7 days a week, including evenings and bank holidays, with out-of-hours and rapid response care. The preliminary results suggest that this comprehensive support improves patients’ adaptation to life after surgery and prevents hospital readmissions.

Gastro Week Night 2
This session will involve a summary of the uses of LAMS in endoscopy and their emerging uses. The session will go through the history and development of LAMS and their emerging uses in different conditions
Gastro Week Night 3 - BOWEL MANANGMENT / TAI NIGHT
Transanal irrigation as part of bowel care routine: safe initiation and treatment adherence. The webinar aims to increase awareness of bowel symptoms assessment and follow up, transanal irrigation contraindications, and how to choose the right products for the patients.
Bowel care options have evolved from laxatives and lifestyle modification in recent years – to encompass novel drugs and transanal irrigation. The webinar will address how to use these new therapies effectively while keeping a place for conservative therapies
