Petya qualified as a nurse in Italy and has vast experience in both medical and surgical nursing gained in Italy, Ireland and the UK, with a special interest in GI and Urinary systems. She provides specialist nursing care for colorectal and urology patients, and most particularly those with ileal pouch, stoma and enteric fistulae, in both acute wards and in nurse-led clinics and community settings. Petya has a special interest in improving healthcare staff education, patient care and outcomes, as well as developing and implementing innovative evidence-based care and digital services, aimed at improving patients and staff wellbeing. She has been vastly involved in research, service development, publishing and presenting on national and international level, education. She also has several publications in British and Italian nursing journals. Furthermore, Petya takes part in different scientific committees and clinical advisory boards for stoma and ileal pouch care. She is a representative for the Association of Stoma Care Nurses (ASCN) in the UK, for the London Area; as well as working closely with all stoma and ileal pouch patient support groups. She presents nationally and internationally at conferences ensuring evidence-based practice, patient safety and quality assurance are at the core of her practice.
